IDcam –
As many have mentioned the birdseye is useless.
Pros: pre-roll footage, night color vision works well, softer light with brightness adjustment, and crisper audio.
Cons: fov is smaller, motion detection was spotty at initialization (rebooted several times), unit is larger, and I think the motion sensing is also narrower than prior generation.
Hopefully ring can send a firmware update to improve the motion detection.

Easy to install, I also installed the solar panel. The picture quality is amazing compared to the previous generation. The lighting is better to and lights up the yard pretty good. My only complaint is sometimes it doesn’t detect motion unless it detects it for a certain amount of time. For the most time it captures, but the times it doesn’t worries me when I need it. I may need to adjust app settings. If anything changes I’ll adjust my review

The latest update has a very good image and video. The birds eye view is good but pointless. It’s just a gimmick and pulls a screenshot from Google Earth of a sky view of the camera footage and is not needed.
Some issues are the wall mount, which is cumbersome and not the best. I have to use the original mount for the spotlight camera, which is far better. In both mounts, the ring tightening screw on the mount is easily stripped and not sturdy as it’s secured to plastic clasps.
Also, the unit is bigger than the spotlight camera and you have to measure added room to remove the speaker housing to charge the batteries if placing near a ceiling-this would be around 5 inches extra space.
SickIcarus –
I bought four of these to replace the older Ring Spotlight Cams that only did 2.4ghz WiFi. These work great! The 5Ghz is a vast improvement – they are much more reliable, video doesn’t stutter or chop. (Be aware though, 5Ghz has less range than 2.4, so plan for that in your deployment.)
Installing was a snap – they work perfectly with the old cameras mounts, it’s the same ball-mount system; I simply loosened the old ones and removed the cameras, snapped these in and pointed them, and tightened back down. It took longer to configure the cameras software to my liking than to install them.
They are also compatible with the old batteries and solar panels – BUT, for the old panels you will need to spend $12 on a barrel-to-usb-c adapter. Well worth it to not have to replace the panels and re-run wiring. The batteries are identical with the old ones.
I saw a review saying you couldn’t mount them under a soffit – this is BS, you absolutely can. You have to remove the back panel with the ball and turn it over so that it’s angled up. Angled down is for mounting on a vertical surface, like a wall or fence; angled up for a horizontal surface, like under a soffit. Works just fine, and there are instructions on the Ring website that show you how to orient everything if you need them.
All in all, it’s a Ring camera – if you’re already in the ecosystem then you know what to expect. It works, and works well, and the 5Ghz WiFi is a welcomed (and sorely needed) improvement!
